COLUMBUS, OH – The Kettering Archbishop Alter Boys Golf Team claimed the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division ll Boys Golf State Championship at the Ohio State University Golf Club Scarlet Course.

The Alter Knights, made up of five current and former SOPGA Junior Tour Members, found themselves in a similar situation this year as they were in at the 2021 OHSAA State Championship. Last season, they held the overnight lead after round one but were not able to hold on as Columbus Academy claimed its fifth consecutive State Championship. This year the Knights were determined not to let history repeat itself and they opened the 2022 State Championship with an 11-stroke lead over the field, including Columbus Academy.

Sophomore TJ Kreusch set the tone for the Knights in the final round. With birdies on four of his first six holes, Kreusch got off to a great start on a day that would see him tie for the lowest score of the day with a two-over-par 73. His great play also earned Kreusch a second place overall finish at 77-73 to cap off a great season.

“Losing to the same team three years in a row was pretty tough,” noted Kreusch. “To be in the same spot we were last year again but to close it out and actually grow our lead was a really cool feeling and a testament to how hard we work all year.”

In addition to a team victory, Junior Davis Gochenaur won the individual State Championship title. A great round of one-over-par 72 at the always difficult Scarlet Course helped his team tremendously. Posting a final round score of four-over-par 76, Gochenaur was able to edge out teammate TJ Kreusch by two strokes and claim medalist honors in the 72 player field.

All five players on the Knights team finished the event in the Top-25. Senior Grant Tabar had a successful week finishing in sixth place and earning a spot on First-Team All-Ohio. Sophomore Grady Tabar and Sophomore Finn Grawe ended the event in a tie for 23rd place after consistent rounds both days to help the team claim the title.

Congratulations to the Kettering Archbishop Alter Knights Boys Golf Team on bringing home the 2022 OHSAA Division ll State Golf Championship!
