COLUMBUS, OH (October 22, 2022) – The Mason High School Boys Golf Team finished runner-up at the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division l Boys Golf State Championship at the Ohio State University Golf Club Scarlet Course.
A challenging opening round left the Mason High School Comets 12 shots outside of first place and eight shots outside of second. Determined to not let a difficult first round define their tournament, the Comets roared back in the final round posting a 294, the lowest score of the entire tournament, to finish at 613 and earn the Runner-Up title three strokes outside of first.
“This summer was huge for me to get back into tournament mode. Competing in events really got me ready for this season even though those events were all individual tournaments,” noted Senior Timmy Hollenbeck. “There’s no ‘I’ in team, if you play well and your score doesn’t get used, that’s just how it is and that means your team probably played well which is always good.”
The Comets formed a close bond within their team as all five of their players were seniors. “I wish I could have played better but it was still just an amazing experience.” said Hollenbeck. “We have gotten really close over the past four years so to have one last ride together and play as well as we did today is going to be an amazing memory that we all have.”
Congratulations to the Mason High School Comets Boys Golf Team on finishing runner-up at the 2022 OHSAA Division l State Golf Championship!
