Cadence Monroe-McCoy earned the honor of being the girls 13-15 Player of the Year for the 2023 SOPGA Jr. Tour season. Cadence played in a total of 17 events this summer, accruing 3,467.50 points! This is nothing new for Monroe-McCoy, as she earned Co-Player of the Year honors on the Junior Series last year with the SOPGA. During her 17 events, Cadence was able to secure five wins this season and never finished outside of the top-5 in the girls 13-15 age division! Her season was highlighted by wins at the Springfield Jr. Open at her home course Reid Park, as well as a win at the SOPGA Jr. Championship at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
Q: What were your top 3 tournaments of the SOPGA Jr. Tour Season and why?
CMM: First, SOPGA Jr. Tour Championship at Muirfield Village Golf Club because of the amazing experience and feeling it was to be there. I always have wanted to play there and once I did I never wanted to leave. Second, Miami Valley Jr. Championship at Heatherwoode Golf Club because it was nice to put together consistent rounds of an 86-84 at a golf course I plan to be at later this fall for my high school team. Third, Pipestone Junior Classic because I was able to make a ten stroke comeback with an 94 to an 84.
Q: Do you work with a Golf Coach? If yes, what is his/her name?
CMM: Yes! I work with Kurt Heintz, PGA out of Reid Park! He has helped me grow my game so much and he came out to support me a lot this season!
Q: What is your favorite golf course you’ve ever played?
CMM: Definitely Muirfield Village Golf Club!
Q: When did you start playing golf and what got you interested in the game?
CMM: I started playing golf August of 2020. What got me interested in the game was my dad and I needed something to do outside of the house since I was doing online school during COVID.
Q: If you could play golf with anyone, who would be your dream foursome and where would you play?
CMM: I would play with Fat Perez from Bob Does Sports, Frankie Borrelli from Barstool Golf, and Garret Clark from Good Good Golf.
Q: What was the highlight of your summer golf experience?
CMM: Making new friends and getting the opportunity to play at Jack’s Place.
Q: What do you like to do outside of golf?
CMM: Outside of golf I like to perform in our school’s marching band and play basketball!
