FAIRBORN, OH (July 13, 2021) – The Southern Ohio PGA Section is pleased to welcome Cristina Hidalgo to its staff as the 2022-2023 PGA WORKS Fellow.
Growing up in San Luis Potosí, a city in Central Mexico, Hidalgo was introduced to golf at a young age and began playing competitively at eight-years-old. Her love of the game provided opportunities to play a variety of golf courses in multiple countries including Canada, Scotland and the United States of America. She graduated in June 2022 with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from the University of Northwestern Ohio where she was a student-athlete on the Women’s Golf Team.
“I have experienced tournaments from the player’s perspective and am excited to learn more about all aspects of the operations that go into running the tournaments,” Hidalgo responded when asked what she is looking forward to most about this position.
In her new role, Hidalgo will support the Section’s PGA REACH programming and fundraising efforts. She will work closely with Section staff to continue growing the SOPGA Junior Tour, PGA HOPE Program, and other Foundation programming. Players will also see her on the course at Section events throughout the season. Hidalgo hopes this will help begin her career in the golf industry and provide the opportunity to see a multitude of different courses.
Since 2018, the Southern Ohio Section has employed five PGA WORKS Fellows for a timeline of 12 months. The PGA WORKS Fellowship provides the opportunity for a one-year, paid immersion in a PGA Section’s Foundation operations. The entry-level experience offers a taste of what a career in the golf industry can look like by introducing participants to all facets of the industry. The program is part of the PGA WORKS strategic initiative designed to diversify the golf industry’s workforce. PGA WORKS is funded by PGA REACH, the 501(c)(3) charitable foundation of the PGA of America.
