Grace Boone has become a well known member of the SOPGA Jr. Tour over the span of her junior golfing career. She has played in several events not only this year, but for many years back. Grace’s biggest goal for the year was to become the tour’s Player of the Year, and she did just that.
Starting her season at the Lancaster Jr. Open, Grace had a solid T4 finish, setting a stage for what the summer has in store for her. She had one of her best rounds of the year at Reeves Jr. Open, firing an impressive 82 to claim solo 3rd. She then had her best score of the summer come at the Yankee Trace Jr. Open, claiming solo 2nd with a score of 81.
Grace then went on to play in the Junior PGA Championship in hopes to reach qualification. She played an amazing 2 days of golf shooting a 87-88 to finish T9 at the summer’s biggest stage. An impressive showing of skill and talent for the young star.
A week after her showing at the Junior PGA, she captured her first win of the season at the challenging Losantiville Jr. Classic! She went into this two day event firing a 83-84 in very tricky conditions. With pouring rain of the second round, it did not slow Grace down one bit.
Once the summer was coming to an end, Grace did not let off the gas. She went into six more tournaments and finished top 10 in 5 of the 6. Setting herself up perfectly for Player of the Year. Going into the SOPGA Jr. Tour Championship, Grace knew she had to have a good performance in order to win Player of the year. She went out there and finished 10th place, in a dramatic finish, she won Player of the Year.
Congratulations to Grace Boone, a player who is a bright light both on and off the course in so many ways and who was a welcome sight at any tour event she’s played in over the years. Good luck in your next chapter of college golf Grace!
